This section presents results from the combined load cases, in which the wind and wave conditions examined separately in the preceding sections are combined to create more realistic environmental loading scenarios. The following figures present PSDs of fairlead tension, tower base moment and hull pitch, respectively. The frequency spanned by each plot covers 0.0 to 0.25 Hz, corresponding to 4.0 s and upwards, thereby covering the range of wave excitation periods experienced by the platform. Higher frequency responses, although perhaps important for the fatigue assessment of the rotating blades and other wind turbine components, are not of concern here in the context of a global analysis of the FOWT system. Broadly speaking, similar trends are observed for fairlead tension, tower base moment and hull pitch, with Flexcom tending to under-predict the platform response at lower frequencies, whilst achieving a closer match at intermediate and upper frequencies.
