The following figure illustrates the surge decay response, while the table presents natural periods and decay rates for surge, heave and pitch. The Flexcom numerical model closely matches the natural periods observed in the tank. Good agreement is also achieved with respect to decay rate, particularly in surge and pitch, but the tuning of damping coefficients to suit these degrees of freedom may have resulted in a slight overdamping in heave.
