Torsional Strain

Flexcom computes torque T as a primarily solution variable in the Finite Element Formulation. Torsional strain εT is obtained from torque and the torsional stiffness GJ. Torsional strain has units of degrees per metre (or foot).

For structures with a linear torsional stiffness, GJ is a constant value. For nonlinear materials, the torsional stiffness at the relevant strain is obtained from the nonlinear material relationship.
