*LINE PATH SECTIONS

Previous pageNext page

Purpose

To define sections within a line path with a view to generating additional element sets. This keyword is closely linked to *LINE PATHS.

Theory

Refer to Line Paths for further information on this feature.

Keyword Format

A block of lines defining sections within a line path (which itself has already been defined via *LINE PATHS). The block begins with a line defining the line name. This is followed by a mandatory block consisting of one to two lines defining line sections, and this block may be repeated as often as necessary to define all the required sections of the line. Line sections results in the automatic creation of element sets, facilitating the subsequent assignment of geometric and hydrodynamic properties. The entire block of lines defining line sections for the line path may then be repeated as often as necessary to define line sections for other line paths in the model.

Line defining the line name.

LINE=Line Name

Line defining a set name for elements within the line section, the start and end distances of the sub-section along the line (positive values denote forward measurement from the start of the line, while negative values denote backward measurement from the end of the line), and optionally the line section group to be repeated across the section. Any Line Section Group Name which is referenced must be defined under *LINE SECTION GROUPS. Please note that line paths use virtual distances rather than actual distances i.e. you should specify distances on the assumption that all corners have zero bend radius.

SECTION=Section Set Name, Start Distance [, End Distance][, REPEAT=Line Section Group Name]

Optional line defining an additional set or sets to which the elements within the line section are to be added.

[ADDITIONAL=Set Name, Set Name, Set Name etc.]

Input:

Description

Line Name:

The name of the line. See Note (b).

Segment Set Name:

The element set name for the line section definition.

Start Distance:

The distance along the line path to the start of the line section. Positive values denote forward measurement from the start of the line, while negative values denote backward measurement from the end of the line.

End Distance:

The distance along the line to the end of the line section. Positive values denote forward measurement from the start of the line, while negative values denote backward measurement from the end of the line.

Additional Sets for this Section:

Additional set or sets to which the elements within the section are to be added. This may be useful in combining different sections which have similar structural or hydrodynamic properties. If more than one set is referenced, use commas to separate out the set names.

Repeat Group:

The line section group which will be repeated over the length of the section.

Notes

(a)It is important to define meaningful names (for Section Set Name entries, and any Additional Set names if applicable), as these names will be used by the program to automatically create relevant element sets for you, which you can subsequently reference when you are assigning structural and hydrodynamic properties to your model.

(b)Please note that line paths use virtual distances rather than actual distances i.e. you should specify distances on the assumption that all corners have zero bend radius.
